Oman Energy Association (OPAL) is the first Society in Oman’s Petroleum Industry to be officially approved and registered in the Sultanate of Oman, on 27th October 2001 under regulations governing the formation of societies with the Ministry of Social Development. OPAL provides a single umbrella body to agree and promote standards of work competence and professionalism, with the vision of raising the standards of the Oman Petroleum Industry to become world-class, internationally competitive, and optimise industries resources.
OPAL expanded its role and obtained a license from the Ministry of Labour to host a Sector Skills Unit (SSU) for the Energy & Minerals sector since the year 2019. The Sector Skills Unit (SSU) mandate is to build a skills system that is driven by the sector demand with the intended objective of bringing together all the stakeholders, sector, human resources, and academia for conducting research and development activities for skills development and skills up-gradation for the sector.
OPAL USP is the one-point Contact for all Training Providers to provide Trainings in a Standardised approach for Learners.
Learners can be the Staff of a Company / Companies or Individual Candidates from various Companies.
The Companies seeking to provide Trainings have to register on the OPAL Unified Service Provider (OPAL USP) either as a Main Centre or a Branch of a Main Centre. On Registration, relevant Information is collected from OPAL USP to Evaluate the Training Provider’s capability. On Approval, the Training Evaluation Centre details are displayed to the Stakeholders of the portal. The Training Evaluation Centre has to further apply for OPAL Standard Courses, Customized Offered Courses (on request from the Oil & Gas Operators) and go through an Evaluation of the Staff. OPAL USP also caters to another segment of Evaluation, where-in Omani National Companies can register themselves as a Technical Evaluation Centre. On Registration, relevant information is collected from the Company (Main Centre or Branch) to evaluation the Centre’s capability of Inspecting the Commercial Vehicles moving within Oman as well as the Inspection of companies who handle the Device Installation on Approved Vehicles and validate the Device Stickers which are issued to the Vehicles.
